Miami International Airport (IATA code MIA) was once known as Wilcox Field and today is the main airport of South Florida. It is situated approximately 13 km from the center of Miami in northwestern direction, between the cities Miami Springs, Hialeah, Doral, and the village Virginia Gardens. The airport is a main base for American Airlines, Executive Airlines and Miami Air charter airline. It serves passengers to cities in Europe, North and South America, the Canary Islands and is considered the largest gateways to the United States. Miami International Airport serves more than 36 million passengers a year, has four runways and three terminals – North, Central and South. Currently there is a reconstruction project of the terminal, which aims to enlarge and make much comfortable the terminal complex. Miami International Airport could be reached through the Metrobus network with connection to the Tri-Rail, various free shuttles, taxis, limousines, shuttle vans and rental cars. The available airport facilities include a hotel with a conference center, various special facilities for disabled passengers, two-short term parking zones and one long-term parking area, as well as offices of many rent-a-car companies. The other onsite terminal facilities include ATM machines, a bank office, a post office, many restaurants and cafes, various shops, plus a medical center.
