Guangzhou International Airport (IATA code CAN) is also known as Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and is located in the capital of Guangdong Province in China. The airport serves as a main hub for China Southern Airlines and is the second busiest airport in the country with more than 40 million passengers being handled per year. The airport, which is set in the district of Huadu, was opened in year 2004 when it replaced the previous airport bearing the same name, which is now closed. Guangzhou International Airport is situated 28 km from the center of Guangzhou in northern direction. According to the plans for expansion, the airport will get a third runway, a large Terminal 2 and a new outdoor and indoor car parking zone, as well as a metro station that will serve the new terminal. This project is expected to be finished by the end of year 2015, when the airport shall be able to serve 75 million passengers each year. The Guangzhou International Airport is reached by a six-lane expressway with the help of bus and taxi services. The available onsite facilities at the airport include a business center, facilities for the disabled passengers, one hotel, and many offices of car rental companies. In addition to these, there are ATM machines, a bank, several restaurants and cafes, plus many duty-free and regular shops.
