Hong Kong International Airport (IATA code HKG) is locally known as Chek Lap Kok Airport, as it is constructed on the Chek Lap Kok Island, some 34 km from the Hong Kong Island in northwestern direction. This is the main airport in Hong Kong, replacing the old Kai Tak Airport and is a major gateway for more than 40 destinations in Mainland China and also Asia. Hong Kong International Airport has many awards for customer satisfaction plus an award for World Airport of the Year 2011 by Skytrax. It operates the biggest terminal for passengers, being a main hub for Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Dragonair, Cathay Pacific, Air Hong Kong. The flights that are being operated at Hong Kong International Airport are offered by 90 airlines that fly to more than 150 destinations around the world, with traffic of more than 45 million passengers a year. The airport works with 63 jet bridges, where five of them can handle Airbus A380. It has two terminals connected by a free automated train and free electric vehicles and two concourses – a North Satellite and a Midfield Concourse. There are plans for the development of a new passenger concourse with 20 gates in the Midfield area that is to be finished in year 2020. The onsite facilities available at the Hong Kong International Airport include conference facilities, a business center, facilities for the disabled passengers, a hotel connected to the airport with the help of a covered walkway, as well as a bank office and ATM machines. Further are available more than 150 restaurants, an Irish pub, shops and duty-free zone, medical center and a multi-storey car parking. Car rental is not popular for Hong Kong except when it comes with a local driver and this service is available by several companies with offices at the airport. The airport could be reached through the MTR Corporation Airport Express Line, public buses, cross-border coaches and taxis. Transport is also available on water through high-speed ferries from the SkyPier. There is a bus service that connects the airport to the piers.
