Kazan International Airport is located 25 km southeast of Kazan. The airport serves as a hub for Tatarstan Airlines, Ak Bars Aero, Kazan Airlines and Tulpar Air. The main terminal building was opened in 1979, serving international flights since 1985. The airport was renovated for the Kazan Millennium celebrations in 2005. A new modern business-class terminal was recently built with a capacity of 100 passengers per hour. In November 2012, the airports newly built large terminal commenced operations. Funding for the reconstruction of the Kazan International Airport was entirely provided by the Republic of Tatarstan.
