The busiest and largest airports in New Zealand - Auckland International Airport (IATA code AKL) is also known as Mangere Airport. It is situated in the suburb Mangere, some 21 km from the center of Auckland city in southern direction. The airport serves more than 13 million passengers a year and is the main hub for Air New Zealand and Pacific Blue. It is among the ten best airports in the world for year 2011 and operates approximately 45 flights an hour on a single runway. There is also a project for second, new runway for smaller airplanes, which is currently put on hold. The airport terminals are two, connected by a free shuttle bus. One of them is an International Airport and the other is a domestic terminal. The international terminal has been extended to allow the handling of Airbus A380. Auckland International Airport onsite facilities include two conference rooms, facilities for the disabled passengers, several hotels nearby, bank offices and ATM machines. In addition to these are available a medical center, nurseries, plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as many shops and a duty-free zone. There is also a covered and an uncovered car park and offices of many car-rental companies. Auckland International Airport is mainly accessed by two highways on three bus lines, shuttles and taxis.
