Magadan International Airport (IATA code GDX) is officially known as Sokol International Airport, which serves Magadan District in Russia. The airport is situated approximately 70 km from the city of Magadan in northern direction. It was used by Alaska Airlines in their flights to the United States. The flights provided by this air company were stopped at the end of 1998 when the Russian financial crises started and these routes were considered unprofitable. Sokol Airport serves the Russian Aerofot, as well as the airlines Transaero Airlines and VIM Airlines to Moscow, Vladivostok Air, Yakutia Airlines and the seasonal flights of Chukotavia and S7 Airlines.
