Singapore International Airport (IATA code SIN) is also known as Singapore Changi Airport and as Changi International Airport and is the main airport in the country, as well as a main aviation hub for Southeast Asia. The airport is positioned 17 km away from the commercial center of Changi in northeastern direction. It is a main base for five passenger airlines and two cargo airlines. It serves more than a hundred airlines and is flying to more than 200 cities worldwide and serving more than 42 million passengers a year. Singapore Changi Airport is reknown for its excellent customer service and has more than 360 awards since year 1981. The airport follows a policy to improve its infrastructure and to be always ahead of capacity. It comes with two parallel runways and five terminals (one being still a project), connected by a free SkyTrain that goes to the terminals on a regular basis. In addition, a free shuttle bus connects Terminal 2 with the budget airline terminal. Terminal 1 is currently under reconstruction that aims its upgrading, while the budget terminal has been expanded to handle the increasing number of low-cost airlines. The Budget Terminal has lower airport taxes, but also not many amenities and can handle as many as 7 million passengers a year. The large aircraft Airbus A380 can be handled at Terminals 1 and 2 at the Changi Airport. The available onsite airport facilities include business centers, conference facilities, special facilities for the disabled passengers, four car parks and offices of several car rental companies. The terminal facilities also include change bureaus, wireless internet, many restaurants and cafes, several shops and a duty-free zone, as well as a medical centre. Singapore International Airport could be reached via train with a station being set on Terminal 2, by frequent public bus service and by taxi.
